Biography

Emeka Nkwuo is a trial attorney who specializes in criminal and civil litigation.

In criminal practice, Mr. Nkwuo represents clients who are charged with offenses in criminal, municipal and juvenile court. Mr. Nkwuo successfully advocates for his clients; often times resulting in having his clients’ charges dismissed entirely or substantially downgraded prior to trial. In his career, Mr. Nkwuo has tried numerous cases with the vast majority resulting in Not Guilty verdicts on behalf of his clients. Mr. Nkwuo has represented defendants in several high profile criminal cases in Monmouth County. Mr. Nkwuo has defended clients on a myriad of charges including, but not limited to, murder, robbery, burglary, drug distribution, gun possession, DWI, and motor vehicle offenses. In addition, Emeka works diligently assisting clients with expunging their criminal records in order to have them avoid the negative stigma of having a criminal record and have a second chance at life. Mr. Nkwuo helps people clear their criminal records to ensure they have opportunities to obtain employment and affordable housing and avoid all of the consequences of a criminal record.

In 2021, Emeka Nkwuo was designated by Super Lawyer’s Magazine as a “Rising Star.” Emeka is rated a perfect 10.0 by Avvo and has more than 50 five-star reviews. In 2021, Emeka was a panel speaker at the New Jersey Association of Justice Annual Boardwalk Seminar. Emeka also served as a Judge several times for the annual Vincent J. Apruzzese High School Mock Trial Competition.

Mr. Nkwuo always had a passion for helping others. Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Nkwuo was an Assistant Deputy Public Defender in Monmouth County from 2011 to 2018. As a Public Defender, Mr. Nkwuo vigorously defended clients charged with criminal offenses in Superior Court. Additionally, Emeka specialized in juvenile court where he defended children charged with criminal and disorderly persons offenses. Mr. Nkwuo was extremely successful in juvenile court and numerous times prevented the State from incarcerating children or charging them as adults. Mr. Nkwuo also served as the Public Defender for Monmouth County Drug Court and represented a multitude of defendants during pre-trial detention hearings under Bail Reform.

In civil practice, Mr. Nkwuo represents clients who were injured due to the negligence of others. Mr. Nkwuo’s practice areas include motor vehicle accidents, premise liability, wrongful death, truck accidents, civil rights violations, dog bites, product liability and other civil actions.

Mr. Nkwuo received his undergraduate degree from Rutgers University, and his law degree from Widener University School of Law. After law school, Mr. Nkwuo clerked for The Honorable Richard W. English, J.S.C. in the Criminal Division of Monmouth County.

Mr. Nkwuo is a member of the Monmouth County Bar Association, New Jersey State Bar Association, Haydyn Proctor Inn of Court, Monmouth County Bar Association Diversity Committee, District IX Ethics Committee and a Trustee to the New Jersey Association of Criminal Defense Attorneys.
